What we charge for, and what each hour buys

Most of this site is free to read. When a reader wants a person beside them at a viewing, or wants the papers read by someone who has read a thousand of them, these are the hours we sell. Prices are indicative and we confirm them in writing before we start.

Services, one at a time

  • 01

    Paper trail review

You send photographs of the registration certificate, the service book and the advert. We read them and reply in writing with the questions you must ask and the ones that already disqualify the car.

    • Title holder and ownership check against the certificate
    • Service history read with the kilometre gaps mapped
    • A written list of the questions to put to the seller

    from R350

  • 02

    Walkaround with you

Two hours at the car, in Pretoria or anywhere inside the Tshwane metro, working through our own checklist with you rather than for you. You leave able to do the next one alone.

    • Body, glass, tyres and underside with a torch and a magnet
    • Cold start, idle check and a short drive on mixed surfaces
    • A deduction list in rand for every fault we find

    R950

  • 03

    Independent inspection booking

We arrange a full mechanical inspection with an independent testing facility, brief them on what worries us about the specific car, and translate the report into plain language afterwards.

    • Booking and liaison with the testing facility
    • A briefing note so they check what matters on this car
    • A call with you to go through the findings line by line

    R1 450

  • 04

    Shortlist build

You tell us the budget, the distances you drive, who sits in the back and where the car sleeps at night. We come back with a shortlist built around comfort, parts availability and insurance conditions.

    • A written brief we both agree before we start looking
    • Four to six candidates with the trade-offs spelled out
    • Parts pricing on four common items for each candidate

    R1 200

  • 05

    Test-drive route planning

A drive around the block tells you nothing. We give you a route near Pretoria that includes a bad surface, a long climb, a tight parking garage and a stretch at open-road speed.

    • A route sheet with the exact turns and what to listen for
    • A noise, seat and comfort note to fill in while you drive
    • A second route for a different car so you compare fairly

    R450

  • 06

    Handover attendance

We meet you and the seller on the day, check the licence disc, the keys, the manuals and the tracking unit, and photograph the car properly before the money moves.

    • Document check against the car before payment
    • Full photographic record of panels and odometer
    • A short written handover note both parties can keep

    R850

All prices are indicative, quoted in rand, and confirmed in writing before any work starts. Travel beyond the Tshwane metro is charged per kilometre and agreed in advance.

Ask about a car

Tell us the asking price, the kilometres, whether it is a dealer or a private sale, and what is making you hesitate. The last part is usually the useful one.
